Legal disclaimer

What this website is, what it is not, and the limits of the information we publish.

We are not a law firm

Legal Aid Solicitors Network is an independent information and introduction service. We are not solicitors, we are not a firm of solicitors, and we are not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Nothing on this website is legal advice, and reading it does not create a solicitor and client relationship between you and us. Any solicitor you go on to instruct will be independently regulated by the SRA and will be responsible for the advice they give you.

Legal Aid eligibility is never guaranteed

Legal Aid depends on the type of your case, a means test on your income and capital, and, for many matters, a merits or interests of justice test. These rules change, and they are applied to the facts of your individual case.

Anything we publish about eligibility is general guidance about how the scheme normally works. It is not an assessment of your case and it is not a promise of funding. Only a solicitor, working from your documents, can tell you whether Legal Aid is likely to be available to you.

Accuracy and currency of information

We take care to keep the guidance on this site accurate, but the law in England and Wales changes, and Legal Aid thresholds and scope are revised from time to time. We do not warrant that every page reflects the position on the day you read it.

Case examples and testimonials on this site are illustrative. They describe the kinds of situations people come to us with, and they are not a prediction of what will happen in your case. Outcomes depend on the facts, the evidence, and the solicitor assessment.

Introductions and third parties

When you submit an enquiry, your details may be passed to an independent solicitor or firm so they can contact you about your matter. We do not control how that firm runs your case, what they charge where Legal Aid does not apply, or the advice they give.

This site may link to external websites, including government and regulator pages. We are not responsible for the content of any site we do not operate.

Urgent matters

This website is not a route to urgent help. If you have been arrested or invited to a police interview, you are entitled to free and independent legal advice at the police station regardless of your income, and you should ask for the duty solicitor straight away.

If you are at immediate risk of harm, contact the emergency services on 999.
